Beachbound Baby.

We are heading to Florida for a wedding in just a few short weeks. It will be Harper's first time at the beach & I am oh so excited! Of course, I have to laugh at the picture perfect image of beaching it with a baby that I have in my head. We all know what it's really going to be like. Kid eating sand. Everything sweaty, sticky & germy. Pigeon poop everywhere.  People judging me while I try to sip a rum runner with my kid on my lap. Kid eating more sand. Ah, it will be bliss, right?

My favorite part of planning for the trip? SWIMWEAR! I couldn't pass up this adorable colorblock two piece that I found the other day, I put it on her just before bedtime the other night & we were just loving life!
Dad was less than impressed.

Color Block Ruffle Bikini

I am absolutely obsessed with swimwear. I put together a few cute swimwear styles with matches for mama, dying over all of this cuteness. I had to get Harper a fun straw hat too, girl's gotta be stylin' in some shade! :)
Three: Polka Dot Bikini, Fedora, Coverup
And matches for mama for each look!
One: Ruffle One Piece. Two: Eyelet Bikini. Three: Polka Dot Bikini

And dudes. So many cute styles for dudes! A simple navy swimsuit (Like this one shoulder one piece from J.Crew) for mama would be the perfect match for these adorable colorblock cool looks!

 One. Two. Three. Four.
Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine.

Here are some of the goodies that will be coming along to Florida with us, my new favorite suit & two of Harper's to match. Loving all the neon colors!

Baby Suits from Gap (out of stock), Jeweled Black Two Piece

Swimsuits are my one serious closet obsession. I wore the same pair of Nike Shox for literally eight years, yet probably bought eight swimsuits per year during that time. We do spend a LOT of time at the pool in the summer though, so maybe the cost-per-use rule can apply? :)

Speaking of the beach, I plan to recap all of our beach-bag essentials & road trip activities. Ah, yes, another road trip.
At least this trip is only seven hours & won't require my husband & I to drink tallboys in the bathroom while Harper sleeps in dark, quiet peace in our hotel room. Not that we've done that.

  5. We live in Savannah, GA, so we go to Tybee Island pretty often. Our son is 10 months old and has been twice. The first time he was 4 months old, and less than impressed. We went two weeks ago and he absolutely loved it. I felt like I was camping with all of the items we toted around, but it was well worth it. We lathered him up in sunscreen, and made him wear a hat, which was adorable! Hope you all have fun and enjoy!

  6. I LOVE your blog. I found your blog after having my Harper 5 months ago. You have helped feed my addiction to buying adorable baby clothes and I've purchased MANY things (etsy headbands, gap clothes, etc.) from the links on your blog. We too are going to FL for vaca in May and I can't wait to see what some of your essentials are. BTW, like you don't already know this, but your little Harper is adorable!

  10. i just took my 11 month old to tybee for the first time today! like you, i had low expectations, but it was great! minimal sand-eating (and she's still crawling so i was quite surprised) and she had a blast in the shallow tide pools with her bucket and shovel. i kept slathering sunblock on her every 30 mins or so, and i don't think she has any burns (my biggest fear.) good luck and have fun!

    3. How funny! We moved here about a year ago for my husband's job. It's been hard to get out and meet people when I stay home with our 10 month old. We love the area, though!

  17. She is too cute in that swimsuit! Look at those baby legs. :) Love it, I can't wait until I have my own little munchkin (I'm almost there! About 108 more days to go). I miss the beach, being in Colorado we are too far from any large body of water. Love your new swimsuit along with the matchy suits for Harper. How fun!

  22. Was she wearing a diaper with her bikini? I got Claire a bikini for this summer and I was trying to figure out how not to be trashy with the possibility of her swim diaper hanging out?

    1. Not in this pic since I was just trying it on her, but I think we will have to opt for the bulky swim diapers when we actually take her to the beach.

  23. Love all of the suits! My baby girl is turning one in 3 months and then we are leaving 4 days later for the beach. I CANNOT wait to take her to our favorite beach. I am looking forward to your other posts about your road trip. Our drive will be 12 hours, so it should be interesting.

  28. This question is a bit late, and should probably be written under your bday post -- but are your friends just THAT amazing that they all traveled to be with you on your birthday? or has your wonderful personality already allowed you to meet a bunch of friends in your new 'hood? if the latter, what tips can you give to meeting new people? :)

    1. Aw, no none of my friends from home could come, but we do have a big group of friends here (most of them are actually from Iowa even) that came. I don't have any good tips, ha! It really is hard to meet new people, most of our friends are through my husband's work (especially working from home, I hardly meet anyone!) or people that live in the area that we have met via mutual friends.

Can't wait to see little Miss Harper beachin' it up in a couple of weeks!!! *LOVE* your swimmy choices!! I totes wish I could wear a strapless bandeau....but my kachungas are too honkin' huge to hold one up!!! LOL!!!! #thanksgrandma&mom

  34. Harper is SO freaking cute. I hope y'all have a fabulous vacation and a stress-free road trip.

Before I read this I had literally JUST text my sister the pic of that color-block bikini Harper is wearing along with the matching blue/neon green/gray one telling her we needed to buy our girls matching swimsuits for our vacay in June. And my sweet Heidi has that black and white striped suit from Old Navy. She wore it before bed a few nights in a row after we bought it....talk about obsessed.

  36. Tip for traveling with baby...choose a hotel with a large bathroom (of course you can't really research this..we got lucky with the Fairfield Inn & Suites and used that one almost exclusively when we had a baby). Set up the pack-n-play in the bathroom...like we literally put the monitor and music right there on the counter! Voila, you've claimed back your hotel room. But wait - how do I brush my teeth...what if I need to pee? Take turns using the public restroom down the hall! Oh yes we did.

Now that baby is 5 we try to get two room suites or at least a room where a living area is separate from the sleeping area so that we each have our own space...

  37. So. Much. Fun!!!

Take baby powder with you, it helps get the (dry) sand off so easily.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I had dreams of perfect beach pics too....and lo and behold we actually got them! And my guy was only nine months old. You'll have great pics!

  39. DYING over that pic of Harper in her bikini. That striped swimsuit with the flower is kind of making my day as well.

  40. How cute!! Def take baby powder to the beach because it will get the sand off of Harper!! Started my collection of swimwear for Reese! Question- What size do you buy her? Since they have to wear a Swimmer diaper?? Reese is 4 months and I'm wondering what size to buy, she would be 6 months in June, just in time for the pool!

  41. I seriously love your blog because of how normal and honest you are (IE you drink, you party and you drink some more ;)! I will so be the mommy drinking a beergarita bouncing a baby on my lap!!

  42. enjoy your vacation! cute suits! I love watching you and miss harper :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. OMG THAT STRIPED SUIT. I die. And this makes me want a girl so so so much more to go in it. Boy swim stuff has nothing on girl swim stuff. Would it be weird to buy for the future girl I may never have?

  44. we brought lots of baby powder to keep that sand off :)

  47. Ahhhhhh! So precious! And great picks for the little dudes, too.... I hadn't seen all of those and am thinking Jackson needs a few more for summer (like you, I stock up on swimsuits like mad!). I love your black swimmy --- so cute! We're head to Playa del Carmen at the end of June (sans the mini.... and I won't lie, I'm so excited for a getaway!). Where are you guys going in Florida!? LOVE Florida and that's where we'd originally planned on going, but a few things changed.

Can't wait for your guest post next week! :)
