Hello 2013

I hope you all are having a wonderful New Year! This week has been filled with lots of cleaning, organizing & jotting down endless notes about my New Year's resolutions!

Let's recap some BOOs & BOOMs of 2013 so far, shall we?
So far this year I have perfected the Iced Coffee on our new Keurig (I'm such a coffee snob... I need that shit strong & bitter as all get out). So we can chalk this up as a big BOOM! Also, we started the first season of Parenthood (which it seems like everyone I know raves about!) & Courgartown returns in just a few days. A stocked DVR or Netflix playlist is BOOM in my book!

On the flip side. It turns out that we have a family of squirrels living in our attic. A congregation, if you will. So I'm really looking forward to forking over a ton of money to get THAT taken care of. Insert sarcasm font here. BOO!

What I am looking forward to, is getting Harper's room back in order. We had fun decorating it for Christmas, but I miss the pinks & greys. I think she is looking forward to it as well.

This little doll baby is growing up way too fast.
Also, I kind of want to blow this picture up to be the size of my entire wall.

Back to resolutions! Here is what I have so far.
1. Utilize my Pinterest recipe boards more! I get in a cooking rut all the time, I love to cook but I hate deciding what to make. I have a perfectly good resource for recipes, but always forget to use it. Who's with me?!
2. Stay organized. I sort of laugh at this since it's a resolution every year, BUT here is my strategy. I always think I need to document everything in excel, or in my phone or some other digital means. This year, I am going back to basics, with a notebook & pen. I am a visual person, I'm hoping this will work better for me.
3. Be the best, most fun, most festive, most loving mom & wife ever.
4. Wake up earlier so I have more time in my day to do some more ME stuff. I have unopened books that I am dying to read, endless chalkboard design ideas, DIY projects, letters/gifts/goodies to make & send to people and so much more. I get so caught up with things that I NEED to do, that I rarely have time for the little things that I want to do.
5. Expand my coffee cup collection  (Nevermind, my husband says this one doesn't count)
5. Lay off the Fritos.

There you have it! I am all over my resolutions this year & have big plans to rock them all.
(Not going to be mad if I fail miserably at number five)
So, tell me, what are your resolutions!?

  1. My husband I and LOVE Parenthood! Your #4 resolution is also mine this year...but 4 days in and I'm already failing miserably. Apparently my body is still begging for all the sleep I lost in 2012. Still going to try though! Looking forward to seeing everything you have to share in 2013! :-)

  2. I'm with you on the fritos. And crap food in general, I guess. Mostly I just want to write more, complain less (yeah, right) and attain the motivation to paint my kitchen. Boom!

    Happy New Year!

  13. I want to of course keep working on being healthy. I want to get to know our neighbors better (we've lived next to them for 14 months and are still in the "hi, how are you?" stage). I want to do something new and different every month- a museum, a new restaurant, something!

  17. One of mine was to eat less gummy peach rings.
I quickly deleted it before I could even get the period on the end of the sentence. Lets face it, we all know I'll never let up on my gummy eating game.

  20. I've also tried the phone/excel method of organization, but I now have an Erin Condren planner which is amazing. They're pricey, but full of fun stuff and have an endless amount of places to organize thoughts. My husband got me one for xmas for the past two years and I'm hooked!

ps- I think that simple chalkboard is my favorite one so far :)

    2. Just got a Keurig. Um, hello....??? Have I had my head in the sand for like ever? It's a pure joy in my house.

    3. I don't really do resolutions. I just try and be the best me that I can at all times. Sounds cheesy...but maybe I'm just cheesy.

    4. Fritos rock. Especially in a pot of homemade chili, loaded with onions, hot sauce, and cheese. BAM. Oh, and try that Mexicorn dip floating around on Pinterest...use the Fritos scoops and woah...you won't be able to stop eating it!

    5. Harper is as cute as always. Love catching new reads on your blog.

Happy 2013 to you all!! :)

  27. I'm working on the meals too! I found a site on Pinterest for meal planning. It lets you copy & paste links and adds it to the meal planner, gives you a shopping list and keeps your the recipe all in one place. Started it today...hoping I can keep up with it. :) plantoeat.com first 30 days are free. Cheers!

  28. I'm working on meal planning too. I found a site on Pinterest that helps and give you shopping lists, recipes and lots of other extras. Hoping I can keep up with it. First 30 days are free and I think it's $5.00 a month after? Family business. Seems legit. We'll see! plantoeat.com need to eat better for this little baby inside me! :) Love your blog. Follow religiously.

  29. I have just a few...

    1. spend less time on my phone and FOCUS more on all things my baby girl.

    2. Less sweets.

    3. Allow myself more time to SHOWER.
(sounds easy enough, but why am I so tired at the end of the day to just say HELL with it and even skip brushing my damn teeth?)
+I'm allowing myself more time for hygiene haha!

  30. Jessica- By organized what do you mean?

For me I get so overwhelmed at the very WORD organize. There is so much taht needs organizing that I just want to get a DDP and throw that word out the window!

Do you want to organize your house, pantry, schedules, meals?
Because I am on this resolution mode but I am getting overwhelmed. My only goal is to not gossip and like that's gonna happen!! =) j.k. But Seriously....I need some ideas!

@Rebecca, I want one of those planners!! But I am super worried that I will buy it and then not use it! ugh..and they are so super pricey but so darn cute!!

  31. P.S.
-Cat's totally approved MUST see TV series list-

Parenthood LOVE!! Modern Family, The Middle, Fringe, Grimm, Private Practice, Greys anatomy,Good Wife, The Walking Dead, New Girl, Cougar Town, thats all I can think of at the top of my head.

These are ones I'm trying to decide if I like: Happy Ending- I think this one is totally going on my list HILARIOUS! Subergatory- I don't know yet..still in the MEH stage.

Series that are TOTALLY done and can watch episodes back to back. Seriously the only way to do it: 24, Jericho, Scrubs, Desperate Housewives, Malcom in the middle, Charmed, Monk, Heroes, I know I have more but can't think of anymore now.

Ok gonna stop cause this is just getting embarrassing! =)

  33. I"m with you on resolutions 1,2 and 4.

    1. I can't count the number of times during the week I say to myself and/or my boyfriend "Gosh, I sure am hungry... but I have no idea what to cook!" Really? Because I'm pretty sure I have at least 732 recipes pinned at the moment. That leads me to resolution #2.
    2. I LOVE notesbooks and pens probably more than anyone should at my age. I discovered during my art school days that the Moleskin brand of notebooks are pretty spectacular. I would definitely recommend them to any creative soul out there.
    4. Since finishing art school, I have collected such a random assortment of half-baked projects. Seriously, my "project portfolio" looks more like the Island of Misfit Toys.... but this IS a new year and it's about damn time I start focusing more on what I WANT to do, instead of what I actually NEED to do. Being a responsible adult is super overrated anyway...
Happy New Year Y'all! It's gonna kick ass!

  34. I'm with you on resolutions 1,2 and 4.
    1. I can not count the number of times in a day I say to myself and/or boyfriend "gosh, I sure would like something AMAZINGLY TASTY for dinner, but I have no idea what to cook?!" Really? Because I'm pretty sure I have about 732 recipes pinned at the moment. Time to finally put that board to work.
    2. And for resolution #2, I would definitely recommend the Moleskin brand notebooks/sketchbooks. They come in all different sizes and are super convenient. I was required to use them all through art school, and now that I am finished I still use them! I LOVE notebooks and pens probably more than anyone my age actually should... but when there are so many things to dream about and create, how can you NOT get excited about writing that shit down?!
    3. ....which leads me to resolution #4. After I finished art school, I began accidentally collecting the most random assortment of half-backed projects. Seriously, my "project portfolio" kinda looks more like the Island of Misfit Toys... but hey, this is a new year and it's about damn time I started doing more of what I WANT to do and just a little bit less of what I NEED to do. Being a responsible adult is super overrated ;)
Happy New Year, Y'all! It's gonna be EPIC!

I stumbled across the link to your blog while looking at Pinterest and read it from the beginning. What a beautiful family! Pretty sure I now have a full-on case of baby fever:) Hoping that 2013 will find me putting some of your great tips to use for myself. Many blessings to you all in the new year!

  42. Oh my gracious! My husband and I just encounter squirrels in our attic too. They left their pinecone mess on our suitcase. Did y'all find out where they were coming in from the outside? It's such a mess! We built out house a year and a half ago and this is our first home owner issue. I despise squirrels now just for this reason.

You will love Parenthood!! This season is definitely the most emotional season of them all but everything is based on real life situations. It's very touching!

  47. Ahh, I am so the same with the organization thing. I've spent so much time and money on apps for my phone and even spent a ton of money on an Erin Condren planner.. they are SO cute, but.. so far a plain notebook has honestly worked best for me! Back to basics!

    Good Luck!
