Christmas decor has already been sprinkled around the house! Most of it so far is in HARPER'S ROOM!! Her room is getting a full Holiday makeover and will be finished in just a few days! I can't wait to post pictures! As for the rest of the house, I hung a garland on the fireplace and put out a few other things here & there. But we will wait to put up the trees until the day after Thanksgiving.. after we come home from mad Black Friday shopping!
What prompted me to be decorating this early?? Christmas music, of course! As soon as I turned on my favorite playlist on the old iPod... festiveness went into overdrive! These are my top picks (and favorite versions of each). I don't eff around when it comes to picking my Christmas jams... you better believe I've put as much thought into this as I did in writing my wedding vows or naming my first born child.
Dreaming of a White Christmas by Otis Redding (from Love Actually, my favorite Christmas song!)
Baby, It's Cold Outside by Leon Redbone & Zooey Deschanel
Pennies From Heaven by Louis Prima (Elf Soundtrack
... the whole thing is a must have!)
All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey
Happy Christmas by John Lennon
Silver Bells by Kenny G
I'll Be Home For Christmas by Michael Buble
Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee (Best enjoyed while dancing around the room with a cardboard Michael Jordan standup)
Joy To The World by Mariah Carey
Please Come Home For Christmas by The Eagles
Frosty the Snowman by Burl Ives
Spirit of Christmas by Ray Charles (Best enjoyed while wearing an old sweater, watching family movies in your attic)
Santa Claus is Coming To Town by Bruce Springsteen (virtual fist pound to anyone who agrees that this is one of the best songs of all time!)
The Grinch by Thurl Ravenscroft
Sleigh Ride by Ella Fitzgerald
Dreaming of a White Christmas by Bing Crosby (I know this song is already on the list, but this version is a must have too... so go put some aftershave on your face & sing this into your comb for a second go 'round)
Dreaming of a White Christmas by Bing Crosby (I know this song is already on the list, but this version is a must have too... so go put some aftershave on your face & sing this into your comb for a second go 'round)
Oh Holy Night by Mariah Carey
Little Saint Nick by The Beach Boys
I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas by Gayla Peevey
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Mel Torme (yep, Home Alone style)
Carol of the Bells by Trans Siberian Orchestra
Run Run Rudolph by Luke Bryan (random, I know, but this version is the bomb)
Notice what is not on this list? Last Christmas by Wham! and any version of Feliz Navidad. I'd rather run my head into a wall than listen to five seconds of either song.
In other news, Harper has her first unicorn horn pigtail!!

I loved all your home alone references-best Christmas movie ever!
ReplyDeleteVery cute but I absolutely love "Last Christmas" by Wham. It is what gets me through the holiday season!!! Love your blog and I hope you sell your writings! I am waiting so I can buy some.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!
very cute but I absolutely love "Last Christmas" by Wham! it's the only song that gets me through the holidays! Love your blog and hoping to buy your frame writings soon.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!
I LOVE how festive you are! You get me ready for whatever season we are in!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been in the holiday spirit this year, but reading your post and music list woke something up inside me. I love your excitement, it's very contagious!
ReplyDeleteI Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas! It's my favorite! I love that I am not alone in my Christmas excitement. My husband won't let me put up any decorations yet, but you best believe on Thanksgiving it's going up!
ReplyDeleteI love your playlist! And I'm with you 100% on Wham's "Last Christmas". It isn't even a happy song and Christmas is a happy time!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your decorations. I'm sure they will be beautiful!
Could I kindly recommend a fantastic new version of Stevie Wonder's "Someday At Christmas" done by singer Jordan Hill? : ) Proceeds of the sales of the song on iTunes/Amazon are being donated to childrens charities, so it is all for a good cause AND you get a new great Christmas song!

(p.s. I am a longtime follower since finding your incredible chalkboard pictures on Pinterest! I love your sense of style and decor!)
i love this playlist! also, i can't wait to see Harper's holiday-decked-out room! (:
ReplyDeleteIn LOVE with your playlist - you've captured the very best! And that pigtail! Just in time for the holidays.
ReplyDeletei love your list! thanks for posting it. i've been listening to christmas music since october hit, and i'm not ashamed. could you do a post some day that talks about your favorite names? i love the name harper and i'm curious what other names you came up with. thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am the same way! This weekend my 2 year old Mason and I shared some hot chocolate and busted out some decor while listening to the Christmas station on Iheart.com!
ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS POST! Seriously, couldn't agree more on every song! Me and you seriously ALMOST have the same play list, but I am a HUGE fan of Martina McBride, like BIG. Seriously, if you haven't seen or heard of any of them, I highly recommend listening to that :) can't wait to see your beautiful girl's room! I swear I'm going to be just like you when I have a little family of my own! only question of the post is, WHERE'S THE VIDEO?! Hahahaha :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE your playlist! cant stand wham and dont even get me started on feliz navidad! [im spanish so i hate it even more than anyone lol]
ReplyDeleteand i LOVE that quote!! might have to use that on my chalkboard too :) and yes the ELF soundtrack is my fave christmas cd!! [it counts as a christmas cd right??]
Harper's 'first unicorn horn', I'm dying! So cute! I like your taste in x mas music. In addition to a bundle of songs you like, I'm pretty much obsessed with the Glee holiday cd's haha so lame, but my fav to listen to when I'm in the shower haha
ReplyDeleteSo excited to see Harper's room after you've decorated!
❅*When I was young I would deck my room out to the extreeeeme!! {And wouldn*t take it down till like, April}
ReplyDeleteThere were glistening oversized candy canes & lollie-pops hanging from the ceiling a sheer bed canopy I embellished with hand made lace-snow flakes...ugh...I would do it now but my Fiancé probably wouldn*t be a fan of sleeping in a Candyland Winterwonderland each night :(
{Can*t wait to have kids!}❄*
Thanks for the list, I too am in holiday mode. You better believe I throw in a "oh the weather outside is frightful" or a "it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" on a daily basis!
ReplyDeleteI love all the songs that are on your list! But I thought I would suggest one song to add to your list A Very Merry Christmas - By Dave Barnes
ReplyDeleteIt is absolutely amazing and I think you would really like it!
Mariah Carey Merry Christmas is a must for decorating the tree!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had an ounce of your enthusiasm!!
One of my favorites is "the Elves Lament" by the Bare Naked Ladies and Michael Buble. No ones ever heard of it, but its hilarious and super catchy and I listen to it over and over again.
ReplyDelete"All I want for Christmas" is the ultimate getter upper song for me :)
ReplyDeleteI burst out laughing at your Wham!/Feliz Navidad comment. I have been saying that about both songs for years!
ReplyDeleteVirtual fist pound! Bruce springsteens's version of Santa Clause is Coming To Town IS the best version, hands down! BTW...solely because of your music selections, love of beer and holidays, we'd be virtual BFF's. now if you had included John Denver and the Muppets: Christmas is Coming...I may have peed myself!
ReplyDeleteYour playlist and mine look eerily similar. So happy to see the Boss made the playlist!! Santa Claus is Coming to Town is one of my favorites, although I do tend to get a little emotional at the beginning when he talks to Clarence. Sure do miss the Big Man!
ReplyDeleteGreat picks on your playlist! How about a little Louis Armstrong...?? His Winter Wonderland is so jazzy and classic!!! You can't help but want to have a slow dance with your honey or bee bop around by yourself when this plays!! :P
ReplyDeleteI totally enjoy your posts!!
Props to your Home Alone, Elf, and Love Actually soundtrack jams! I am purposely holding off on listening to Christmas music because the moment it plays I want to go out and buy gifts and completely ignore the Christmas budget I set for myself haha.
ReplyDelete... and no judgies, but I am such a fan of "Last Christmas" by Wham! ...and also anything on the Nsync Christmas album from like 1995. *Duck and cover*
I can see you hating "Mele Kalikimaka" but that song always makes me smile during the holidays! I'm definitely bookmarking this post for reference after Thanksgiving, thanks! Good list!
ReplyDeletewow! that is huge list! thanks for sharing I too love x-mas songs so of course I've been dancing around with my baby already
ReplyDeleteLove your list! The Ray Charles song almost had me in tears at my desk via a youtube video. I actually went over to my moms and dug out all our old Christmas photos. Sweet sweet memories. Thanks for writing such an enjoyable post. I wish you and your family nothing but the best during the Christmas season and New Year!
ReplyDeletePS: Take tons of pics of Harper because one day she will be back in your basement sitting on the floor with you going through all them on a random Wednesday night:)
Love how festive you are! and loving Harper's pony tail!!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on Feliz Navidad. Worst Christmas song ever!
ReplyDeleteYou have GOT to listen to Baby It's Cold Outside by the Royal Sons!
ReplyDeleteIt is my absolute favorite. I have seriously been listening to it all year long and now I can't wait for it to be socially acceptable to do so! (;
Ooh, I love seeing other people's holiday playlists! Thanks to this post and comments, I'm already downloading new stuff. Personal faves are any holiday stuff from Barenaked Ladies (especially "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" with Sarah McLachlan), Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and there's some Cajun Christmas tape (yes, tape) that our family plays every year.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog:) may duplicate this exact playlist, but I will add "merry Christmas baby" by rod Stewart. I don't know that I ever heard or cared about it until my first Christmas with our little boy (this year will be his third Christmas). That song came on the holiday channel on tv and he smiled and we danced around the living room and it became an instant fav! Now little brother is set to arrive on or before New Years Eve and I hope he will like just as much:)
ReplyDeleteI love your list! But I can't belive you left out "The Christmas Song" by the Chipmunks, lol. My go-to Christmas ringtone!!! Also, "Santa Baby" is a fave of mine. I like the original and the Kellie Pickler version. ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm with you on the dislike of "Feliz Navidad" solely because once heard, it is stuck in my head ALL.DAY.LONG...but I love "Last Christmas". I am hooked on the Glee version though!
