Halloween Costumes Are My Thing.

Monday, October 8, 2012

Everybody has their thing. Maybe you make a mean Chili... have the best Christmas light display around (your name better be Clark Griswold)... or dominate at knowing "what other movie" that actor or actress plays in. But dressing up for Halloween is my shit. The excitement is overwhelming.... that is where my eve's of holidays first began. I can't even fall asleep the night before Halloween because I am too giddy about the festiveness that awaits me in the morning.

So, my friends, a little flashback of my favorite Halloween costumes over the years.

My first, and most favorite costume of all time, the Muffin.

This was 2006, my junior year in college. I had it in my head for the longest time that I wanted to be a muffin... well before Pottery Barn had "cupcake" costumes. This puppy is made up of a hula hoop, packaging paper, loads of duct tape, some fabric & hot glue. I don't know how to sew.

Brandon was Waldo. Looking back, he totally should have been the Muffin Man.

Not pictured, because I literally cannot find one, I was a troll doll. Flourescent purple hair sticking straight up, nude body suit stuffed in the belly & the hips and a jewel in my belly button. Would be a hilarious kids costume.

The next year, I was a witch. I was obsessed with this costume, not necessarily for it's creativity, but probably because of my super duper obsession with Hocus Pocus. The skirt, legs & shoes were the best. I am obviously beer-bonging with one of my best friends (she was Glenda the Good Witch) because Brandon had a lame pirate costume that gradually fell apart through the night. I still have this costume.. dare me to wear it to the grocery store on Halloween day.

The next year I was a peacock & Brandon was a lumberjack. While I do love couples costumes, sometimes you gotta do your own thing so you can both be what you want! :) I'm guessssssing it was Brandon who desperately wanted to be a lumberjack this year.

Next up, Zack Morris & Kelly Kapowski. Ironic, since my brother's real name is Zach Morris. This one got us first place in a costume contest (whoop!) likely because of the giant cell phone. This was made up of an old cordless phone stuffed into a computer speaker. Craftsmanship right here.

Temporary spray hair color turned this dude blonde for the night. Sorry for the blurry pics, apparently I only took them on my phone rather than using a real camera, such a shame.

And last year's costume, the Home Alone Wet Bandits. I was pregnant with Harper here. If you remember from my Halloween post last year, I complained about how much it super sucked being pregnant in a bar (especially dressed like a fat old man) with all the half-dressed-playboy-bunnies running around. But it was Halloween, so it was worth it.

Hope you've enjoyed all of this nonsense... I certainly have. I secretly wish I could be the muffin every single Halloween.
I can't wait to share our costumes for this year, which we finally just decided on, along with Harper's adorable Tinkerbell costume! :) I will leave you with a pic of this little pumpkin.

I love the costumes! The one that I am most proud is a homemade refrigerator costume that I made a few years ago. I painted a cardboard box white, made some shelves on the inside, screwed a real refrigerator handle on and even taped some groceries to the shelves so when I opened the door there were a bunch of groceries in there! Got to love Hollowen!

This year my little one who is a few months younger than your Harper is going to be a baby duck!

Can't wait to see Harper all dolled up for Halloween. My little girl was Tinkerbell for her first Halloween. I was Peter Pan and the hubs was Captain Hook. Good stuff.

Halloween is also my "thing". I swear if we lived closer I know we'd be best friends!!! LOL I am always thinking of my next costume come Nov 1. I usually dress up in one costume for various Halloween parties and another for Halloween night. All BEFORE I had Jack. Now it's just going to get worse!! Hahaha! Poor kid doesn't know it yet, but Halloween is going to be his favorite holiday too!! ;) And don't even get me started on the Griswolds! You should see our house. Keep posting the pictures - they are great! And PS - Jack will be a cave-baby (making his costume) and a Jack O Lantern too!

REALLY wish I could get my husband to dress up - we talked about doing Wilson and the Cast Away dude (Tom Hanks) for Halloween this year because of this bump. Not sure if he will go for it or not. LOVED the muffin <3

I love it!! Plus your creativity earns all the more brownie points in my book. I get so tired of seeing women dress as skanky-everything for Halloween, and since I'm not exactly a size 0 (size 12...plus some since I'm 11 weeks pregnant with our second baby) so if I showed off some skin, I'd literally have people running away screaming! ;) LOVE the Home Alone bandits one!! My husband and I are absolute freaks for the holidays and we get REALLY into them. Keep up that awesome creativity and I always enjoy seeing pictures of little miss Harper!!

Halloween is my favorite, too! I adore you for going the funny route instead of doing the typical hot girl slutty cat/cop/pirate/whatever thing. The muffin is too cute and drinking beer out of a measuring glass is geeeennnniuuuss! I'm going as Whitney Houston or a beaver this year. I wish it was Halloween every.single.day in October because I would rock that shit. We got the South Halloween on lock, girl ;-)

So freaking adorable! Love the muffin costume. My little man Christian is going to be a giraffe and my hubs and me are going to be zookeepers! I also am obsessed with candy corn during this time of year and make "trail mix" that lasts like a day! Can't wait to see pictures of your Halloween festivities and more of your lovely home :)

Stopping by for the 2nd time today in hopes of finding an Anniversary post. Since there is not one (probably because you're celebrating y fro-yo-ing), I will wish you a Happy 4th on this post!!!!--Fitting in that it features your enthusiasm for the holidays, which B happily supports--read: Another example that you two are meant for each other!! So hard to believe it has been this long since Whispering Pines, H Joes, Burger Bar, memorable speeches, camping/nails at Holly's,B/A beats and dancing at the church, pole (statue?) climbing by the river, and of course the Morris Man Village People show!! But its SO not hard to believe the Garvin's are celebrating another anniversary with the sweetest, happiest baybuh along for the ride! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! -jael
