Mostly mean mugs as a result of finger food. Harper is officially eight months old! She is crawling all over the place, trying to pull herself up onto furniture already AND baby babbling more than ever. I swear she said "hot dog" the other day. Most proud mama ever.
With that 8 month milestone, we are also entering a new territory in terms of meal time. Our ped told us that once she starts crawling & picking things up with her pointer finger and thumb (rather than the whole-hand-grab)... that we could start feeding her more finger foods.
We have started giving her bits & pieces of the things we eat (peaches, avocado, broccoli, green beans, etc.)... But I find it hard because we eat so much spicy food. She isn't so sure what to think of it yet.. but we are making progress! She loves the little cereal puffs
& yogurt melts
. They are much easier to pick up since they aren't slippery like a lot of other fruits/veggies we give her. PS. the organic sweet potato & mango ones taste just like Honey Smacks cereal (totally that mom who eats her baby's food).

As much fun as this has been, it is also a whole new type of mess making. Like two-hour-old-banana-smashed-behind-the-ear messy. Be prepared for a few extra dirty bibs, face wipes & swiffer pads.
I think she also totally appreciates our encouraging clapping & cheering after she successfully eats all the goodies on her tray.
So, let me hear it! At 8 months, what were you feeding your little munchkins?!

She's so cute. Her faces are awesome. My little one is not quite there yet but I can't wait for the messes as long as my husband cleans them up!
ReplyDeleteLots of "puffs" my fave were the Happy Baby Organic ones you can find them at Target in the baby asile.
ReplyDeleteHooray for 8 months! My youngest is 7 months and we have been trying out the puffs and yogurt melts! She has also had some Cheerios and loved those as well, they are a little harder for her to eat those though. I will warn you to NEVER have her try the teether biscuits... Once those things get slobber on them they are a stick of cement! Wherever she will throw them they'll stick... Including the refrigerator door... I speak from experience! We also have her on the yo baby yogurt at lunch.. Girl can't get enough yogurt!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh SHE'S SOOOOO ADORABLE!!!!! She's couldn't be any cuter! She has to be the cutest baby EVER!!!!! (:
ReplyDeleteEvery time we would try a new food with Elle we would clap and jump up and down aka make a big deal out of it! It truly did work in getting her to eat but now every time she takes a bite she claps for herself! It is pretty cute.
ReplyDeleteNow if we can just get the not throwing our food/ plate off the table thing figured out.
PS: Yogurt bites are also one of our favorites and pirates booty!
She is too cute! Mine is 8.5 months and we are introducing lots of new finger foods, the most recent one being blueberries. He loves those and I recommend trying them if she is chewing well. We have also tried bits of banana, cheese, toast, and Cheerios.:) Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI fed my babies pancakes, grilled cheese sandwiches, scrambled eggs (back before it was "illegal"), chunky vegetable soups/noodle soups, waffles, yogurt, mashed potatoes, oatmeal with fruit, roasted veggies, and anything else that they could gnash with their little gums!
ReplyDeleteShe is so cute!!!
ReplyDeleteSo fun trying new foods! A few of our recent favorites are Cheerios, green beans, Subway Cheese, Granola bars, and I think she could live off Puffs still! The one thing L hasn't liked so far are the Plum Organic trainer meals...not fond of the texture. We are starting to give her more and more...but I'm still a fan of the Plum Organics for on the go! They have really yummy combos!
ReplyDeleteOh this is just the beginning of mess making. I have gotten I. The habit of stripping my 13 month old down to his skivvies at meal times in order to save on some laundry and for an easier clean up. At 8 months old my son really liked baby mum mums and they are great to pack in the diaper bag for a quick on the go treat. You can find them pretty much anywhere. The only thing is to start you'll probably have to break it up for your little one but they are great for kids to learn how to take bites instead of just shoving the whole thing in their mouth.

ReplyDeleteTry the spicy food that your eating, she just might like it! My 6 mo old tasted some chili tonight and liked it.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter was eating everything we were eating by 8 months. Meats (lamb, beef, and chicken) chilli, potatoes, bits of pizza, salad, you name it. As longas it can be cut small enough, they can eat it.

ReplyDeleteI loved the website www.wholesomebabyfood.com when I started introducing new foods. I also ground up cheerios to a powder and would toss the slippery fruits and vegetables in it and that helped my son grab the food!
ReplyDeleteMy little guy isn't there yet but many ofmy friends were feeding their little ones waffles, pancakes, biscuits, and pretty much anything that sparked their interest. Harper's facial expressions are priceless! Love it! :)
ReplyDeleteI love her sweet little face! my boy is 3 months old, so not there yet.
ReplyDeleteMy "little one" will be turning 7 soon and meals have become difficult because she is suddenly so fussy BUT what I really wanted to say was those are the cutest jammies ever! Love them!
ReplyDeletehehe she is so cute. Matthew is only two months and Adam's swears he says HI lol. I looked up the earliest talking baby, but 2 months wasn't listed haha!! But I think 6 months was the earliest so I bet she did say it :)
ReplyDeleteShe is too cute! What brand of high chair is that?
ReplyDeleteHarper is too cute! I gave my son small pieces of fruit like peaches and pears that had been rolled in wheat germ. It made them easy to pick up (not so slimy). He also loved puffs and the yogurt melts. His first word was "puff"! :) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't made it to 8 months yet (only had one adventure into rice cereal land) but I have been thinking about your candy corn and peanuts combo...Did you know if you melt the candy corn and peanut butter together, cool and drizzle with chocolate it tastes just like a butterfinger bar? I'm dying to make a mix of peanuts, candy corn, and dark choc chips for my counter now! PS-Harper's faces are awesome! So cute!
ReplyDeleteshe is getting so big -- what a cutie she is! xo

at 7 months we fed our first baby nothing but table food and he did awesome. i did buy the gerber graduate meals though. he loved it. he HATED the stage 3 baby foods so we just skipped it and did table food and he was so much happier. Now with my second baby i am going to make all her food. i will prob still give her all table food at 7 months like her brother. my sister in law waited to give her daughter all all table food until 10-11 months and she didnt want to eat it. it took forever for her to get her to eat normal food. but we did all the gerber snacks and he loved them all. the ones that look like cheese puffs were his favorite.. and seriously give your kid a cheese puff and its like you gave them crack. lol i worked in a daycare and we used to have to hide them from our kids(6-a yr) they loved them so much..
ReplyDeleteOh how exciting! She is just the cutest little Button. My husband is soo excited for our babe to start eating finger foods. I can't believe how fast Harper has made it to this point?!
ReplyDeleteWhere is that highchair from?! She's adorable!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is 8 months and I've been giving her everything and anything. Today I gave her scrambled eggs, loved them! She also is loving meat loaf, it's nice because there are veggies in the meat too so it's a double banger in some ways. She love the veggie mum mums, steamed apples, carrots, sweet potatoes. I also give her toast too. But a fun thing to give the little ones is a chicken bone with no meat. It's so damn cute to watch them go to town on it! Plus it's a great photo opt :) Harper your a babe!! Love hearing about what your up to. My little B loves to looks at your photos and scream at them hahaha it's too cute!!!

ReplyDeleteSo hard to think "outside the box" when thinking of things to offer my babe that I don't usually eat or like, for instance not a huge fan of peas but she loves them if I cook them super soft and chill them! Great snack alternative to puffs when I'm cooking dinner and need to entertain her in her high chair! LOVE baby mum-mums too!! Great on the go snack, ESP for the stroller and car!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get her high chair (brand etc)? I'm on the lookout for one and I really like yours!! Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteYour blog is so cute and your little Harper girl is absolutely adorable! You have inspired me to start a blog of my own to track my little 6 month old man Memphis...so thank you!!

GAH!!! She is precious! How much does that little tot weigh??? Mine will be 6 months next weeks and is a monster, not like he is mean, he is just huge and eats everything in sight!
ReplyDeleteHarper is super cute!! I love her cheeks, both of my boys have/had the chubby cheeks and I love it! By 8 months I let them try pretty much anything we ate as long as it was cut small enough and not super hard! P.S. the messes never end they just get bigger as the baby gets bigger lol!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have been following your blog for a while and love the new design! I am pregnant with my first child and due around the time Harper was born :)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is 12 days younger than Harper. She eats various baby foods with rice cereal, puffs, and yogurt. We also feed her various fruits and vegetables (i.e. blueberries, celery, cucumbers, etc.), supervised of course, and rice.
