Four Month Favorites & the Fourth of July...

...how festive that they are in the same post? :)

Aden + Anais Sleep Sacks - love these things. Light enough that baby doesn't sweat, but just enough to keep them a little extra cozy at night. Plus, I swear Harper lulls herself to sleep by playing with the fabric.
LifeFactory Teether - Harper loves these because she can grip it with both hands and hold it in her mouth. She can squeeze it and manipulate it to get it in her mouth... plus you can hook them onto the little plastic links so it doesn't get dropped onto the ground.
Boogie Wipes - And ya gotta go with the grape! Since Harper has just started teething, she gets a little bit of a runny nose now and then, I swear these things stick the boogies right onto the wipes. They smell amazing & clean her little nose right up.
Gerber Oatmeal Baby Cereal - Just after her four month birthday, we started her on baby cereal. She was constantly looking at our food, opening her mouth when we ate and she was hungry all the time (I know, you'd never know it by her chubby little thighs, right?). Ped gave us the go ahead, so we tried rice cereal first. After about three days, she wasn't a fan. I did some research, saw that it didn't have much nutritional value anyway & read that lots of people recommended Oatmeal instead. So we tried that instead, and it was a hit!! She literally dive bombs her face at the spoon, she can't get enough! It is so so so fun to watch her eat off a spoon. And for anyone who is going to give me shit and say babies should only have breastmilk for the first year, no need for cereal, blah blah blah, please don't be a hater. Our ped recommended it, she loves it, we like it and that's how we're gonna roll.
Sophie the Giraffe - enough said! This thing is way cute, it was one of the first things we bought when I found out I was pregnant and her eyes light up when we squeak it at her! It's all natural & something about the texture/taste makes babies love it even more. If you have a baby or expecting, this is a. must. have. PS. Watch this video, you'll love Sophie even more!
Jumperoo - We bought this after recommendations from my 3 month must have list. At first she wasn't so sure, but at about the four and a half month mark, this became her favorite thing in the world. While her feet don't quite touch the ground, we put a tempur-pedic foam pillow underneath, so it is sturdy enough for her to push/bounce from. Not only is this pure entertainment for babies, but for parents as well. We watch her jump around in this all night long and crack up.

Baby Carrier (K'Tan) - We love the K'Tan!! It was perfect for when she was really little, but also grew with her now that we can put her in other positions. She LOVES to be in it and it gives me some hands-free time. Plus it is super easy to put on. I highly recommend this! We have been talking about getting an Ergo too now that she is bigger, I have heard great things about them!

Harper says Happy Belated Fourth of July to you all! We had such a fun fourth, plus I loved her little outfit. We spent the day at the pool, got to go to a country concert & then to see fireworks!

She was a total champ & loved watching them. She got a little irritated when she found out that she could not have a funnel cake, but she got over it.

Thank you to everyone for the sweet comments on our house & Harper's ever evolving cuteness. Now that we are all settled in, I hope to share more pics soon, as well as an all encompassing post about our registry and our faves (and not so faves) so far! Hope you all are enjoying your summer - because August (which I pretend is AUTUMN) is just around the corner - so it's almost time to get our Fall on! :)

  1. I always get so excited to see new posts from you! Harper is the sweetest little thing.

Has your ped given the okay to start on solids yet? My little lady loved when I mixed puree with her oatmeal, especially banana!

  2. awww... Harper's 4th of July outfit is adorable. You and your family are just too cute. I've been considering the Aden + Anais Sleep Sacks. I swaddle my little one now and she loves it. I will have to try the sleep sack and see if she likes it. ;)

  13. Hi, I found your blog a long time ago on pinterest and have been following ever since. I absolutely love it and thanks for all of the helpful advice!! We are expecting in December and have been looking into jogging strollers. I saw in your post your stroller and wondered if you could include that in you post on your registry. I am thinking about the BOB, but would just love to know your thoughts on the stroller as another runner. Thanks :)

  15. Let the haters hate! (Loved your comment.) I am a full believer in a loving Momma knows best. Our happy, healthy, four year old started solids at 5 mo 2 weeks, I had so much guilt about it. I just knew she was so hungry!! If Baby H likes oatmeal, try Quinoa. All you have to do it is boil and then blend. It was our second grain and our daughter and she loved it! It also has great nutritional value. Keep up the good work mama! Remember, Mama knows best.

Still loving the fact that our girls are so close in age & love getting good ideas from you. Presley loved the jumperoo when we tried it out a few weeks ago and I feel like that'll be our next big purchase for her.

    Keep writing :)

  20. I love reading about the oh-so-cute baby Harper! I'm not a hater for you feeding your baby oatmeal, but a mom to three and has somewhat experience. In Sweden, they recommend to start giving tasters such as pureed carrots or potatoes, blended with breast milk. From there try oatmeal porridge. Stay away from milk products, their tummies can't digest it for the first year. Tiny pieces of banana are great to try, also raisins and, as we get in Sweden corn doodles with nothing else but corn meal in the (tastes absolutely nothing but the kids love them).
You always always know your own child best and it's different in every country.
Can't wait to see more pics of you beautiful house and baby girl, of course. Take care :)

  28. Awesome post! And wow is Harper ever getting big. She looks about 7 months old not 4! Such an adorable little girl.

I too am super pumped for the fall, my friends and family hate me for it as they can never get enough of summer but I love fall :)

  29. I definitely recommend the Ergo! We love ours and you can do a back carry. I would also check out the Tula. If you're into baby wearing then these are one step above the Ergo and very sought after! Especially wrap conversion Tulas!

  30. Would you post Harpers updated daily schedule? I have a 3.5 mo old and we are trying to get him on a better routine in prep for going to sitter. Love ideas from other moms!! Thanks! Great Blog!

  34. My son is 16 months but I have a very vivid memory of months 4-5. HOLY SLEEPLESSNESS! For sure there is a sleep regression around 4 months. After a few days of this nonsense I began sleep training my son. It's not for everyone, but I recommend these books. I took a little from each and made our own thing. Babywise, SleepyEasy, and the No Cry Sleep Solution. It will get easier, I promise. :)

  35. My sister put her little boy on his tummy to sleep. They sleep more soundly and they have never had a problem with him not sleeping through the night. As long as they can lift their head they can sleep on their tummies. Hope that helps!

  36. My daughter is 3 months on Tuesday and I actually sent m K'tan back in favor of the Ergo... She loves it! She has been holding her head up since day 1 so I didn't need or use the insert. I do put a folded thick flannel baby blanket under her butt, kind of as a little seat, to keep her head up high enough. The only down side to any carrier I have tried is that she HATES IT when I have to bend over with her (laundry,dishes...). Best of luck! Love your posts! Have you checked ou Kelly Hicks? Her son and your daughter are about the same age... :)

  38. love your blog!!! Harper is such a doll! My daughter Hadley is about 2 weeks behind Harper and she just started pulling the no sleep deal lately too. I started reading the Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child book after our peditrician recommended it and it is AWESOME! A little dry at first but you can flip around to whatever issue you're having/age and it helps a ton!!! Basically when Hadley started doing that we started putting her to bed earlier and it actually stopped the night waking! (that sounds like it would never work and I was skeptical too but we were desperate to get her back to sleeping through the night). We started doing bathtime routine around 5:30 - bedtime around 6-6:30 (she'd wake up to eat around 8-8:30 - even though she was half asleep) and now sleeps till 7am. Good luck to your sweet family!

  44. Jessica,
I just found your blog via Pinterest and I love it! I do not have kids but we are trying to get pregnant right now. I will definitely be referring to your blog and your "favorites" posts when we finally do get pregnant and have a little one. Harper is such a cutie! Thanks for all of the great information!

  45. Love your monthly favorite posts! Our son is due any day now and these have been a huge help (and eye-opener!). Plus, you gotta love a chick that says what she thinks and then politely asks no one give her any shit about it, haha! I just had to do the same thing when interviewing pediatricians. Keep up the great posts when you can!

  46. I can second the recommendation to read the book, "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child." I used it with both of my children and they are well rested and well behaved children. There is a direct link! I think you will find that putting Harper to bed around 6 or 6:30 will truly help with her sleeping drama! It may seem weird to put your baby to sleep so early, and you'll miss the time with her- but sleep is too important in the development of her brain for you to mess with! :)
Enjoy every second with your precious girl!
