Two & Three Month Must Haves

Months two & three flew right on by... I don't know how many times I will say "where has the time gone," but seriously WHERE has the time gone!? It's a crazy thing, when your little baby first arrives, you want them to stay a tiny little, snuggly, bundle forever. But as they start to grow and interact with you, you become obsessed with every little milestone. It is SO much fun watching her eyes light up when she sees new things, seeing her smile so big in the morning when we appear in front of her when she wakes up or hear her babble and coo to us when we talk to her. Pure joy & entertainment!

So here you have it folks, our two & three month must haves!
California Baby Lavender Shampoo & Body Wash - As I mentioned before, my friend Whitney (who is such an AMAZING mom!!) came to visit and told us how important it is to give her a bath before bed each night. She said they started doing it with their son (Harper's future husband) and it wore him out and helped him sleep!! So we started giving her baths each night, and we just LOVE this body wash. It smells amazing, is super sudsy and works like a charm. Plus it is all natural, organic, yadda yadda :) That entire brand rocks.
Medela Pump & Store Milk Freezer Bags - Your worst nightmare when pumping & breastfeeding is to ever throw milk away. I would rather put it on my cereal than throw away breastmilk (gross.. but you get the point). Rather than having a few containers here and there in your fridge and risking it going bad, it is so handy to have these freezer bags on hand. They are so easy to use & you can store up to 5oz in each.
Baby Magic Lotion - Again, another amazing recommendation from my friend Whitney. I felt like all the lotions I tried would wear off very quickly - not this one. Your baby will smell like PURE BABY until their next bath ...and it gets rid of dry skin like a charm!! I absolutely love, love, love this lotion.
Jacques the Peacock - We hang this on Harper's bouncer seat and she will actually SMILE at it. It is hands down her new favorite toy. I think this is a must for all babies!
BUMBO - At 9 weeks I put her in it for the first time. She sat right up in it and totally blew my mind. I had no idea! We only put her in it for a few minutes at a time, maybe twice a day, and of course only on the floor while im sitting right in front of her (I don't want to hear about all the controversy & recalls...) I think the bumbo rocks and I will continue to use it! Babies LOVE being propped up to look around once they can hold their head up! So fun to see her eyes light up when we put her in it.  Plus, it is a perfect photo prop! :)
Nap Nanny - I've said it a million times, but this is officially the biggest lifesaver of all. The first night we put her in this, swaddled & buckled in, she slept 7 straight hours. Enough said. Again, be smart, read the warnings & proper ways to use it, but I vote YES to this all day long. We have some amazing friends in Georgia, my husband's boss and his wife, that gave us this when we had Harper - I will be eternally grateful to them for having a baby that sleeps through the night!!
Carters White Onesies - Don't stretch out, lose their shape or shrink like the Gerber ones. I love these under all of her short sleeved onesies for the cooler months.
Triple Paste - Harper had diaper rash once... it totally broke my heart. From a recommendation from another mama, We started using this any time we saw her bottom start to get red.. works like a charm.
Sassy Ring Links - These are awesome to hang other toys from & easy for babies to grip. This was one of the first things I bought for Harper and she loves to look at them! We hang them from her play mat, car seat, bouncer, etc. I always laugh when I see her sleeping with them in both of her hands. Not to mention, they are adorable!

Hope this is all helpful! Again, this is all just my opinion and what works for us. I rarely buy things these days unless I have gotten a recommendation from another mama. If you have any other products that are must-haves or that you & your little one love, feel free to post them in the comments - especially for the upcoming months so I can scoop them up in advance!

One last thing - After many requests to pin things again - I have enabled pinning from my blog! Please just respect the little babe and do not pin pictures of her, but feel free to snag anything else you'd like!! :) Thank you in advance!

  2. I love your blog! But, I am a little surprised to see the Bumbo chair. Not because of recalls alone, but because of the AAP's opinion of it.

  8. I was an exclusive pupmer for 9+ months and really liked the Nuk freezer bags...cheaper, hold 6 oz, and easier to pour the milk out of once thawed.

  9. Love the lists, always helpful for those with babies a few stages behind!  When you are ready to start solids, check out these spoons by munchkin:

    http://www.munchkin.com/catalog/newborn/two-silicone-spoons

I seriously love them. They are all silicone and soft on the gums/mouth. Plus, no spots for germs to hide in washing like the spoons that have plastic molding over the metal. Only downside is the orange foods discolor the actual spoon part a little, but doesn't change how much I love them. It's one of my go-to baby shower gifts.

    Rain forest Jumperoo.

This has been the most amazing, fun thing for my baby. She is now 6 months old but we first let her start playing in this at 3 months and she LOVED IT! She would jump around on her cute little baby legs and use her little toes to push herself up and down. She loves spinning the different toys, and imitating the animal sounds. She will jump up and down for hours (if we let her). This seriously is the BEST purchase we've made, as far as an activity center. When we take her out she likes to still keep jumping, she will jump on our legs and on the ground when we hold her. I also liked it because it was another thing that we could put her in that kept her upright, and she was able to look around and see us and the cats. She adores it. It has 3 different height settings, so it grows with your baby.
enjoy your sweet baby girl, you are SO right, it goes by way to fast! Cherish the smallest things.

    Blessings!

  14. For when she gets a little bigger, I definitely agree with the fisher price jumperoo! The triplets love them! They have two and all three babies jump like crazy in them. It is so fun to watch. They started going in it arou s four or five months old. Another fun one for when they are closer to six months or so is the Bright Starts Around We Go Activity Station. It is a activity table that has a seat attached to it and the baby sat actually walk themselves around the table to play with all the different things. It's very neat!

I can't believe how big Harper is getting! She is beautiful! Thank you for letting us all enjoy her as well!

  16. Love my bumbo for my 2 1/2 mo old! Her expressions when she sits in it are so funny, like she's a big girl! But, I will confess... I prop her in it on the table while I'm cooking dinner... Bad mom award! But, hey, I have 2 other little ones and never once did they get out of it! Anyways, one must have for us is her bouncy seat! I move it from room to room.. Even outside when I'm playing with the girls! Also, we have this "tag blanket" that she loves already... It's a fabric small blanket that has different "tags" attached to the sides of the blanket.. The "tags" are pieces of ribbon in all different patterns, plastic links, a wooden circle, a ribbed piece of plastic, pieces of fabric that are of all different materials.... It's supposed to boost their sense of sight and touch! Plus, it can double as a security blanket when we are out and about! I also LOVE that body wash (sometimes use it for myself!) and the baby magic!

  17. I will second the Nap Nanny recommendation! Total lifesaver. My little Heidi (born Feb. 2011) slept in that thing until she was 5 months old and then we converted her to her crib. It works wonders on babies with reflux! Also, the link rings are still a fun toy for her now at 15 months. She wears them on her wrists and calls them bracelets. :)

  18. I love love love your blog one of my favorites! I have an 8 month old (crazy!) and he adores these soft blocks I bought him on a whim they rattle and crinkle so they are great sensory toys, they are the bright star brand. I also suggest a jumperoo best invention ever!! He also loves toys that mimick everyday items like keys, phone, etc. and any toy that is made to be put in their mouth is great because they get so oral with everything!

  20. I loved using the bumbo in the bathtub. Great way to wash them and let them splash and play before they can sit up on their own.

  23. We were big BUMBO fans too! Thanks for sharing about the triple paste! Max has a rash right now and nothing seems to help. We will for sure check it out :)

Here are a couple of Max's favorite things that I would recommend:

*Carter's 1-Piece sleepers - at around 4-5months Max could roll over so I got worried about leaving him swaddled. The footed zip-up ones worked best for us. (http://www.carters.com/carters/baby-girl-sleep-and-play/carters-baby-girl-sleep-and-play,default,sc.html)

*Rattle Ball - When Max first found out how to grasp he would just hold it. Now he throws it everywhere...even at me! I like this one best because I could attach it to the Sassy links and not worry about it falling out of the stroller when we went/go on walks. (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3583270&searchURL=false)

*Chewbeads - Best invention ever! This is actually a jewelry line for moms that is teething friendly. My favorite part is that the entire necklace can be tossed in the dishwasher.(http://store.chewbeads.com/Default.asp)

*Star gum massager - One of Max's little friends left this at our house after a play date. I set it aside because that baby is about 6months older than Max. But Max found it and loves it! (http://www.amazon.com/The-First-Years-Massaging-Teether/dp/B00002JV9S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1337719879&sr=8-2)

*Walker - I love this walker! We got this for Max around 4-5months and he would just sit in it. Occasionally he would touch a button and make it light up. Soon he could scoot backwards, push all the buttons, and eventually walk(run) all over in it. I also like that the play parts come off, so you can give them books or small foods. Max was an early walker and I think this walker played a big part in that! (http://www.combiusa.com/Products/Item.aspx?Item=10)

*Pajama Time - Best.Book.Ever! This is Max's favorite, however all book by Sandra Boynton are great. I like the square shape because I feel like it is easier for wee hands to hold. (http://www.amazon.com/Big-Box-Boynton-Barnyard-Dinosaurs/dp/0761139893/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1337725135&sr=8-2)

*Safety 1st Complete Air car seat - I'm not sure how fast Harper will need this, but Max needed a bigger seat at 6 months. This is easy to clean, easy to install and easy to get the baby in and out of. My favorite part are the air "wings" that keep Max's head from slumping when he falls asleep.

  24. For when she starts solids... I recommend the Beaba Babycook!!! It is amazing and I had a blast making organic, healthy food for my daughter and can't wait to use it for #2!!! I heard of it from another mamma... Truly the best and I was lucky enough to have my mother-in law purchase it for us!!

  30. Everyone told us not to get a bumbo but we loved it, you just have to be smart with it like you said!

We gave that peacock and Olivia lives it too! She is 1 and talks to it and it goes everywhere with us! :)

Love Carter's onesies. I agree they wash and wear great!!

I love butt paste for diaper rashes, it works like a charm too!!

  31. After meesha started moving her arms a lot 3 mths+ these were a life saver because she still liked to be swaddled but would knock herself out of it so we could wrap her without her arms inside and she would be snug all night still use these and she is about to be 5 mths. They also work great in the carseat.

We just bought this Around we go toy and she LOVES it, the reviews are awesome on it too, we put a pillow under her feet because she is still short but she loves to stand. We took off the pads of toys and just place her own toys in the trays because it is rather busy but she loves that she can pick up what is on the trays unlike with whats on the pads she has to leave it attached lol

  32. I would definitely recommend an ExerSaucer. They don't make the kind I had with my 4 kids but the Baby Einstein Around the World Discovery Center from target is very similar to the one we had. I started my twin boys in it around 4 months and they stayed entertained while I made dinner or folded laundry. Plus you aren't constantly picking up toys to hand them so you can get those chores done faster and get back to playing!

  33. Awesome! Thanks! This is all very great advise :) Can't wait for the next post!!!!

  38. LOVED the Boppy! I am going to go and try the California Baby Lavendar wash on Elle. Thanks for the suggestion. We also love bath time and I agree def helps to have that nightly bath routine.

  39. I totally agree with the tag blanket. We started giving one to my daughter around 3 months and now at 14 months she is hooked! At first she would just chew on the "tags" (ribbons), but now she uses it to help self sooth when she's going to sleep in her crib, or play with in the car on trips. We take one everywhere we go and never leave home without it!!

  42. Hello Jessica!! I love reading your blog and would like to suggest buying a Jenny Jump for your little Harper. My mom bought my daughter one for Easter this year and she LOVES it!!! It's great for when she's a jumping bean and doesn't want to be held. My daughter is almost 7 months old and she laughs and smiles every time she's in it!!

  43. What kind of stroller and diaper bag do you use? I use a petunia pickle bottom and like it, I have tried the ju ju be be prepared and do not like it at all. Also the halo sleep sacks are great. It's a blanket built in to the pajamas.

  44. Hi, I am starting to blog and I was wondering what kind of program you use to create boards like this one to compile products that you like, etc, I appreciate any advice! :)

  45. I'm still in the early stages of selecting all the necessities and all your information is so helpful! If you are using the Medela freezer bags, do you also have to use it with the Medela pump? How do you like it? That is one item that I'm really having a hard time selecting...being a first timer. I heard of some pumps, including Medela, having problems with mold. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

  46. Your blog is very cute!I agree California Baby has some great products. I love using the "cranky baby" bubble bath on my 2 little ones. I was surprised to see Baby Magic on your list since it has so many bad chemicals in it. I used it for a little while when my oldest was a baby because it does smell very nice. You can go to skindeep.com to find out the most safe products to use!

  47. I, too, got a Bumbo for my daughter when she was about 3 months or so. My sister saw it at a rummage sale for $4 so we snagged it. I Lysol wiped the crap out of it, but we started using it right away. LO only used it a few times (so I'm glad I got it for 90% off!), but I totally agree with you on the recalls!! The only reason why there are recalls are because idiot parents put their kid in it, on top of a table or on a counter, and then walk away and don't pay attention. The Bumbo says specifically that it's only supposed to be used on the floor!!!!

And PS - totally love the living room w/ the carpet rather than the stone. Looks much more cozy.

  48. Does anyone know if you can still buy the nap nanny? It appears the company went out of business...
